Since many of you are wondering the same thing, this FAQ section should prove to be a useful tool. If you have a question that is not
answered here please contact the race staff.
Is the Berryman Adventure a relay?
NO. Teams will travel together throughout the race, so each person will complete the whole course.
Will we need to know how to plot UTM coordinates?
YES! Race instructions will use UTM coordinates. If you need help take a look at www.maptools.com.
Can we bring our own canoes for the paddling section?
NO. You must use the canoes that are provided by the race staff. Feel free to bring your own PFDs and Paddles to the Berryman Adventure
though.
Will maps be provided for teams by Race Management?
Yes.
Can we bring additional maps to the race?
Yes.
Are racers required to have a USARA license?
Yes.
Why is there a range of miles for each event (trekking 25-30 miles)?
This is typical for all adventure races. You will be given the coordinates for each checkpoint, how you get to them is up to you. This could
make for huge differences in miles traveled by each team, not to mention the possibility of getting lost. The mileage range is only to give
you an approximate length of the race. You should be ready to race for at least 24-hours for the long course and 8-hours for the short
course.
Will there be cutoff times?
Yes there will be cutoff times. The cutoff times will be explained at the pre-race meeting.
Will the course be marked?
No the course will not be marked. You will have to use your map and your navigational skills to get from CP to CP.
Will there be aid stations on the course?
No. Part of adventure racing is competing without aid. You will either have to carry everything you need, or use what is already available on
the course (i.e. water). You will be required to carry certain items for your safety. Check the gear list for required items. There are
several good sources of water on the course. There will also be some safety CPs that you could stop at.
