09/29/2009 - BERRYMAN ADVENTURE - POST RACE UPDATE
Hello Berryman Adventure Racers! What a race, huh? That one was quite the "ass kicker"! Great job to all of you for going out there
and giving it your all. A job very well done to all of you! Results have been posted and we plan on posting split times by the end of the
week.
12-Hour Racers: First of all, we hope you had a great time and a heck of an adventure out there on the course with your team mates.
That is what this sport is all about. We knew this course was going to be tough, but we honestly didn't think that it was going to be
that tough! We have ideas for next year to get more teams across the finish line and also keep the winning times around 8 hours.
We would like to apologize to all of you for not hosting an awards ceremony. Our main priority as a race staff was to get everyone off
the course and make sure that no one was hurt. We hope you all can understand that. We will be awarding prizes to the top 5 teams in the
4-Person and 2-Person divisions, and will be in contact with those teams this week.
36-Hour Racers: Same as with the 12-Hour, we hope you had a good time this weekend out in the woods with your team mates. You all saw some
of the most remote areas in Missouri on the first orienteering leg, and we felt like you paddled a beautiful section of the Current River.
We do feel like the 36-Hour course was a hair too challenging. However, we do make it very clear that this is one of the
toughest non-expedition races in the United States, and we will continue the tradition of making this an extremely challenging course. We
will probably not go any easier on checkpoint placements in future years, because we have a "no holds barred" mentality when it comes to
navigation on the 36-Hour course. Like we said at the awards ceremony, we apologize for not keeping the leaderboard on Checkpoint Tracker
up-to-date. We usually do an excellent job of this, but with the amount of teams dropping we spent the majority of the night picking teams
up and returning them to race headquarters. Please let your friends and family know that we will do a better job at future races that
use Checkpoint Tracker.
We would like to thank all of our sponsors for supporting this great race and the sport of adventure racing. We also have more fleeces available
if you are interested in purchasing one.
Congratulations again to ALL OF YOU!! A HUGE thank you goes out to all of our wonderful volunteers for helping us out this weekend and all of
the fine people at the National Park Service (and all of the other agencies) that helped us with the 12-Hour race. It is very much appreciated!
Thank you for coming to the Berryman Adventure, and we hope to see you all again soon!!
Sincerely,
Jason Elsenraat
